How are others adjusting to a tighter family budget?
#1
I’m trying to figure out if my family’s budget is just permanently tighter now or if we’re missing something. Our grocery bill alone feels like it needs its own line of credit, and filling up the car stings every single time. How are other people mentally adjusting to this new baseline for regular expenses?

We did something similar—tracked every grocery receipt for a month and compared it to last year. It wasn’t just inflation; other costs nudged up a bit, and we were surprised how quickly small items added up. It made me skeptical about whether we were still in a stable baseline or not.

Filling the car feels like a stab every time too. We tried switching to coupons and a carpool, but the savings were modest and hard to keep up with.

Is the real issue maybe that we expect groceries to be cheaper than they were a couple years ago, or that we just need to adjust our lifestyle more than our budget?

I’m slow to decide if it’s permanent. Some weeks we’re fine, others we hover at the edge. Not sure if I should lock in a longer plan or just keep watching receipts.
