How can I color match between BMPCC and Sony A7S III in post?
#1
I’ve been trying to get better at matching the color and feel between shots from my BMPCC and my Sony A7S III, but my attempts at color grading just make everything look mismatched and artificial. I’m not sure if I need to completely change my approach to color correction or if I’m missing something fundamental about balancing different camera profiles.

I’ve chased that look too. For me the key wasn’t more tweaks, it was treating the two cameras as separate color systems and choosing a shared base. I picked one as the baseline and kept tweaks tiny, mostly on skin tones and neutral gray. It helped a bit, but it still felt off if I pushed contrast too hard.

Sometimes the real mismatch isn’t the grade at all but the light you shot in. If one side is under an overcast sky and the other is warm tungsten, no amount of grading will fully line them up.

I did a test where I shot a gray card and a chart with both cameras and checked with the waveforms. I matched exposure and WB first, then used a neutral LUT to nudge the two toward a common base. After that the shots lined up a little better, but skin tones still felt off if I pushed too far.

Are you sure the problem is the matching and not that you’re chasing a perfect uniform look? Maybe the project wants a two camera vibe and you’re trying to erase the differences?
