How can i cut back on screen time when apps keep grabbing my attention?

I’ve been trying to cut back on my screen time, but every app and website seems designed to make that impossible. Has anyone else felt their attention span shortening because of this constant, engineered demand for our focus?

Yeah, I know that feeling. I used to blame myself for being jumpy, but then I started paying attention and realized my phone kept pulling me back with tiny nudge notifications. I tried turning off most alerts for a week and still found myself scrolling in the moments of downtime. It’s like the pull is built into the way the apps work, not just my willpower.

Same here. It feels like a constant tug for attention, and I can go in to check one thing and end up reading threads I didn’t intend to read.

Is it even the screen or did we train our brains to expect novelty all the time?

I started carrying a cheap notebook, jot a line when I feel the pull, then go back to it later. It slowed me down a bit, but I’m not sure if it’s solving the problem or just buying time.
