How can i fix drift during pH meter calibration?
#1
I’ve been trying to calibrate my home pH meter using the standard buffer solutions, but my readings keep drifting after I get what seems like a stable value. I’m not sure if it’s my technique with the electrode, the temperature of the buffers, or maybe the storage solution I’m using isn’t right.

I had a similar drift with my pH meter after what looked like a solid calibration. It turned out the buffers were drifting because they sat at different temperatures in the tray. I started letting them come to room temp before calibrating and watched the drift ease for a while.

I keep the electrode in proper storage solution and rinse between solutions not aggressively just a gentle rinse. The drift faded after I started rehydrating the electrode and not letting it dry out.

Maybe the issue is the buffers or the instrument temperature compensation. My old meters would drift even with fresh solutions if the temp sensor was loose or the electronics heated up near the display.

Sometimes I feel the problem is not the buffers but the hardware. The idea of chasing the perfect reading in a noisy bench made me pause and check if the cap on the storage bottle was tight.
