How can i fix homebrew curl failing to connect to raw.githubusercontent.com on m2 ma
#1
I’m trying to set up a local development environment on my new M2 Mac, and I’ve hit a wall with Homebrew. Every time I run the standard install command in Terminal, it fails with a “curl: (7) Failed to connect to raw.githubusercontent.com” error. I’ve checked my firewall and even tried using a mobile hotspot, but the problem persists. Has anyone else run into this specific connectivity issue recently and found a reliable workaround?

I ran into that curl 7 error on my M2 Mac last week. It felt like a network edge issue more than a file problem. Different networks gave the same result, so it wasn’t something I could blame on Homebrew itself.

I finally fixed it for me by turning on a VPN and then re-running the install. The script loaded after a minute or so, and brew started printing progress. Not graceful, but it worked in the end.

I also tried switching DNS to 1.1.1.1 and rebooting things, plus using a mobile hotspot, and the curl error kept showing up. It didn’t feel like a DNS hiccup alone.

Maybe the real bottleneck isn’t your Mac at all but an upstream block on raw.githubusercontent.com. A friend with a different ISP reported the same symptom, which makes me doubt if the problem will stay local for long.
