How can i get tight miter joints on a wooden picture frame?
#1
I’m trying to make a simple wooden picture frame and my miter joints just won’t close up tight at the corners, leaving these annoying little gaps. I’ve checked my saw angle twice and tried clamping them differently, but I can’t seem to get that perfect 45-degree fit.

Yep, I know the feeling. My first frame had little gaps at the corners too. I triple checked the saw angle and clamped every piece, but the gaps still stayed.

I found the blade had drifted a tad. After re-tracking and running a quick test cut on scrap, the corners lined up a little closer, but it wasn't perfect.

I measured with a small square after cutting and found one piece was a hair long. Trimming that tiny amount helped close the gap, but it still wasn't right.

Could be the frame got tweaked while sanding or during assembly. I noticed a slight twist and the corners pulled apart even when the pieces looked fine on the bench.

I once gave up on perfection and glued a tiny spline in there just to hold it, but that felt ugly and I tossed the frame.

One question: are the gaps showing up on both ends or just one corner?
