How can i handle morning shoe meltdowns without a power struggle?
#1
My three-year-old has started this new thing where he absolutely refuses to put on his shoes to leave the house. We’re talking full-on floor meltdowns every single morning, which makes us late for everything. I’m at a loss for how to handle these standoffs without it turning into a huge power struggle.

We tried letting him pick his own shoes and did a tiny timer dance when we got dressed. A few mornings he walked out wearing them and stayed calmer for the first few steps.

If the morning feels rushed the meltdown grows bigger, so we slowed down, laid out clothes and shoes the night before, and tried to start when his energy was higher.

Maybe it isn’t the shoes at all but the morning routine being loud and hurried; am I pushing too hard?

One morning we kept it low key by sitting near the door, talking softly through each step, and letting him take a short pause before moving. It bought us a few extra minutes but didn’t fix every day.
