How can i handle random wait times with on-demand microtransit?

I’ve been trying to use my city’s new on-demand microtransit service for my last-mile trips from the train station, but the wait times seem completely random. Sometimes a van is there in five minutes, other times the app says it’s a twenty-five minute pickup, which defeats the whole purpose when my walk home is thirty minutes.

I’ve used it a few times too. Some mornings a van shows up in five minutes, other days the app shows twenty-five minutes and nothing happens. It feels random, and it makes the train-home plan feel brittle.

I kept a tiny log for a week: when I requested, what the app said the ETA would be, and when the driver actually showed. The pattern was always the same wobble: five minutes then twenty-five minutes, with no clear reason. This microtransit thing feels like it buffers demand in fits.

I tried moving the pickup spot a few meters or walking to a different curb where I saw more drivers in the queue. It helped a couple times but not reliably, so I stopped chasing tiny gains.

Could the real issue be that the peak-time schedule is fragile and the app isn’t updating in real time? Maybe I’m overthinking, but I wonder if the problem is variability itself rather than my route.
