How can i improve visual flow and hierarchy in my layout?
#1
I’ve been trying to improve my layout compositions, but I keep getting stuck on how to arrange text and images so the viewer’s eye flows naturally through the piece. I’m wondering if anyone has a good method for establishing a clear visual hierarchy without making things feel too rigid or formulaic.

I've learned to treat the page like a quiet conversation. I pick a clear focal point first—a bold image or a big headline—and then let the text tuck around it. The eye seems to ride a path if I keep some breathing room and a simple grid, not strict rules, just enough rhythm to feel natural.

I wish I could say I’ve got a tidy system, but usually I just move things around for a while and see what unsettles me. Sometimes the emphasis lands when I scale a logo and light the body text a notch, but other times it just feels off and I can’t pin down why.

I did try chasing a perfect grid once. Drank coffee, laid things out, then the piece read like a map. Then I realized maybe the problem wasn't the grid but color balance and image crop. Still not sure.

I tested a layout on desktop and it felt calm, then on mobile it crowded up. So I swapped in a larger image at the top and let text breathe, and it felt more honest, even if I don't have a clean rule.
