How can i make inbetweens feel snappy and intentional in cel animation?

I’ve been trying to get my cel animation to feel more fluid, but my inbetweens keep looking floaty and disconnected from the key poses. I’m working on a short scene with a character doing a quick turn, and the spacing just feels off no matter how many charts I draw. How do you make that transition feel snappy and intentional instead of just smooth?

I learned the hard way that in a quick turn the read comes from weight shifting at the end of the move. If the hips lock in and the chest follows a beat later, the read stays sharp even if the inbetweens feel floaty.

On a test I kept the starting pose a touch longer and then pushed the end pose hard, and the middle frames almost vanished in the viewer's eye. It looked more intentional, even if I didn't add a ton of in-betweens.

Another thing: I used fewer frames overall and trusted a single strong arc; when I kept the center of gravity solid and let limbs catch up, the turn felt quicker, not softer. I even tried syncing the tempo to a drum loop for a day, it helped me feel the beat more.

I keep wondering if the real issue isn't the turn itself but the timing around it; is the camera speed fooling the read?
