How can I make on-screen climate controls easier to use while driving?
#1
I just got a new car with a fancy touchscreen, but I find myself constantly reaching for the physical climate control knobs that aren't there anymore. It feels less safe and more distracting to have to tap through a menu just to adjust the fan or temperature while I'm driving. Is this something you just get used to, or is there a trick to making the on-screen controls more intuitive?

I kept reaching for the old knobs at first too. The touchscreen feels slow and you end up poking around while you’re driving. After a few days I learned there are quick taps that change a setting faster, but it still doesn’t feel natural. I guess you get a bit used to the rhythm, but it’s rarely as intuitive as actual knobs.

I tried rearranging the display so climate controls sit on the main page. It helped a little because I didn’t have to drill into menus every time. The catch is it resets with updates and sometimes the car reorders itself again, which is frustrating.

Do you have voice control? Sometimes I just say a number like set temp to 70 and it does the job, which feels safer than juggling screens.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking about coffee or the next meeting while scrolling, and then I remember we’re talking about temp and fan. Anyway, maybe the problem isn’t the controls but the assumption that a screen should be the default for everything.
