How can I meditate effectively in a noisy apartment?
#1
I keep hearing how important it is to find a quiet space for meditation, but my apartment is always noisy. Between street sounds and my roommate, I can never seem to get that true silence everyone talks about. I’m starting to wonder if I’m doing this wrong or if it’s even possible for me.

I used to chase real silence and felt like I was failing every time a bus roared by. I tried a different approach: shorter sits during the loud hours, and I let the noise ride along with me instead of fighting it. It didn't fix everything, but it felt possible.

I grabbed earplugs and a small fan to mask the room noise. It helped my breathing stay steady when the street got loud, and I could notice the other sounds without freaking out.

Maybe the problem isn't the noise at all but the idea that meditation must be quiet, all clean and still. Could changing what counts as working help?

I rushed through a session yesterday because the roommate started talking, and I bailed after a minute. Then I tried again today with just a few breaths and no pressure to sit perfectly. It felt messy but honest.
