How can i regain focus after constant short-form content and notifications?

I’ve noticed my ability to focus on a single task has completely evaporated since I started using apps that constantly feed me new, short-form content. It feels like my brain now expects that rapid reward cycle even when I try to read a book or work without my phone.

I’ve been there. I caught myself reaching for the phone while I was reading a novel, and the paragraph would blur as I scrolled.

I turned off nonessential notifications and moved the phone to another room for a stretch. It helped for a while, but I kept sneaking glances.

Could it be that the issue isn't the apps at all but the habit of forcing long reading sessions? I wonder if the brain is craving short wins.

I tried timing a few sessions but the first few minutes felt stiff, then I could settle into it, or I bailed and checked the phone again.
