How can you remove old usernames and scrub your digital identity from the web?

I’ve been trying to scrub my old usernames from the web and it feels impossible. Even after deleting old accounts, I keep finding my past handles linked to comments or profiles I forgot about on obscure forums. It makes me wonder how permanent a digital identity really is once it’s out there.

Totally hear you. I scrubbed a bunch of accounts last year and still keep finding a few mentions in old threads. It feels like some ghost of me keeps popping up even when I try to delete.

I chased a few leads and found that caches or copies from archives keep things around longer than I expected. Even if the post is gone, someone saved a screenshot or a mirror somewhere.

Part of me thinks digital identity is kind of permanent in practice, not just theory. The web is built to preserve things, and once a handle is out there it's easy to stumble into years later in a random comment.

I wonder if the real problem isn't the old handles but the habit of using the same nickname everywhere. Maybe if I let it float and start fresh in new spaces, I could stop chasing every trace. Do you think the obsession is the real issue here?
