How do antibiotics affect my gut and how can i protect it?
#1
I’ve been prescribed a course of antibiotics for a stubborn sinus infection, and I’m worried about how it might affect my gut. I’ve heard these medications can disrupt the natural balance down there, but I don’t really understand what that means for actually getting better from the infection itself.

I was worried about my gut when the antibiotics started. A couple of days in I had looser stools and a bit more gas. It settled after a week, and by the time I finished the course I mostly felt back to normal, though not perfectly. I kept meals steady and avoided heavy dairy for a while. A friend suggested yogurt and a probiotic, so I tried them a few days in, but I’m not sure they did much. The infection did get better, but the gut thing lingered a bit.

Yep, the gut stuff showed up fast for me. Then it came and went in waves during the week of the pills. When I stopped, the gut calm finally lingered longer, but not constant.

Is the thing with gut disruption really tied to how the infection clears, or is it just a nuisance that happens with antibiotics no matter what?

I finished the course and the sinuses improved, but the gut thing still feels unsettled when I eat certain foods. It’s hard to tell if I should blame the meds or my own gut reacting to stress and meals.
