How do i cut down screen time without giving in to notifications?
#1
I’ve been trying to cut down my screen time, but every app and website feels like it’s designed to pull me back in with notifications and endless feeds. I know it’s a deliberate choice by the companies, but I’m starting to wonder if I even have real control over my own attention anymore. Has anyone else felt like their phone’s convenience has quietly turned into a demand for your constant focus?

I feel this too. It started as something useful and now it kind of asks for my attention all day.

I turned off most notifications, hid the nonessential apps in a folder, and set a 2 hour daily limit for social. The first week it was rough, but the average screen time dropped by about 20 percent.

Am I chasing the illusion of control, or is the problem the design itself?

I tried a weekend offline once, no tether, just a book and a walk. It felt slow and awkward at first, then I almost forgot the phone existed for a while. The kettle boiled, the coffee tasted better, and I wondered why I keep reaching for it when the world is fine without it.
