How do I get my neighbors to attend a neighborhood potluck?
#1
I’ve been thinking about trying to organize a neighborhood potluck in our apartment complex courtyard this summer, but I’m worried hardly anyone will come. I don’t really know most of my neighbors beyond a quick hello, so it feels a bit awkward to just put up flyers.

I tried this last summer. I kept it simple a short message in the building chat and a handwritten note dropped in mailboxes with the date. A few folks replied and the conversations grew from there.

I felt nervous about the first invite too. I just put up a tiny sign near the elevator and did not expect anyone to notice but a couple did and that changed my mood about the idea.

If I did it again I would try to lock in a couple neighbors to bring a dish and a chair so it feels more like a real gathering not a strangers stand around.

I remember showing up with a small batch of cookies once and realizing even a small gesture can spark talk so I kept trying.

Do you think maybe the real problem is not the flyers but how well people feel noticed and welcome when they show up?
