How do i get past the initial hesitation when introducing myself on a new forum?

I just moved to a new city and joined this forum to try and meet people, but I'm finding it surprisingly hard to actually introduce myself. I keep overthinking my first post, worrying it’ll sound too generic or that I’ll share the wrong thing. How did you all get past that initial hesitation when you were new?

I moved recently too and sat on my first post for days. I finally wrote a tiny hello and mentioned a local coffee shop I’d checked out. People replied with their own spots and it loosened me up.

Overthinking is real. I wrote something short, then deleted it because I worried about sounding braggy. Ended up posting a goofy photo of my pet instead; that got a few messages.

I kept track of what drew responses: specifics beat generalities. A post about a weekend hike near town got more replies than a broad 'new here' message. Still, I was anxious about privacy.

Do you think the real problem is not finding a shared thread, but just the act of making the first move? I asked myself that and felt stuck again for a bit.
