How do I handle clan tryouts that feel like pro tournaments?

I’ve been trying to get into a decent clan for a while, but every time I find one that’s active and skilled, they require a tryout that feels more like a pro tournament than a friendly scrim. I’m a solid player, but the pressure to perform perfectly in one match just makes me choke.

I’ve been there. The first few tryouts felt like a tournament for me too, not a friendly. I’d choke in the big moment and wonder what I was even proving.

What helped me was taking smaller steps. I asked for a couple of short, low stakes scrims with the same group, nothing decisive on the line. We mostly hung around, talked through ideas, and I could reset between games.

Maybe the real issue isn’t your choking but how the teams frame the tryouts. If they only measure one performance, of course it’s going to feel unbearable.

I kept one metric in mind: did I feel like I could play my game when the chat stayed calm? If the vibe was off, I dropped that team, even if they were good.
