How do i know if my therapist's approach is right for me?
#1
I’ve been in therapy for a few months now, and while I feel like I’m making progress, I’m starting to wonder if my therapist’s approach is really right for me. I went in hoping to understand my anxiety better, but our sessions often feel like we’re just talking in circles without ever getting to the root of it.

That sounds rough. It’s tough when you feel progress slipping into a loop and you’re left wondering what the point was.

I’ve been there too. I started jotting a couple bullets after each session and then bringing them in as a quick agenda, just to anchor the talk.

Maybe it’s not you, maybe it’s the fit. Some counselors lean into exploration, others into structure, and it can feel like you’re voting between two paths.

If you want a shot at a clearer path, you could try naming a single goal for the next session and asking how you’ll know you hit it.

I’ve rushed through sessions before and left with nothing but a vague sense of erasure. Not ideal.

I remember one session where we spent a good stretch on a random memory and it felt totally off topic. It did make me wonder if we were chasing the wrong problem, but we never got back to a clear plan.

Do you think the real issue is the method or the actual anxiety?
