How do I permanently remove my personal data from people-search sites?
#1
I’ve been trying to scrub my personal information from those people-search sites, but it feels like a game of whack-a-mole. I’ll get my data removed from one, only to find it pop up on two more a few weeks later. Has anyone else managed to make real, lasting progress with this, or is it just something we have to live with now?

I've been chasing my own data on those people-search sites for months. I started with the big players, filled out opt-out forms, and emailed support a few times. Some listings got pulled for a while, then you'd notice them again weeks later on a different site. I kept a simple spreadsheet to track who said yes, who ignored me, and when things reappeared. After about six months I did see a real drop on a handful, but new copies kept popping up. It still feels like whack-a-mole, and I wonder if it will ever be fully gone.

Same thing happened to me, but with different sites. I’d remove my name from one place and a week later it showed up on another page with the same phone number. I started accepting that scrubbing is imperfect and decided to focus on reducing new data: tighten social privacy, be careful with what I post, and watch for new listings rather than chasing every old one. I did notice peaks after identity events like moving or changing phones, which felt aggravating.

Do you think the real problem is the sites themselves or the data brokers behind them?

It just feels like a race you can't win, you scrub and a new listing pops up somewhere else. I keep hoping a law or standard will push the whole thing to change, but for now I just do small, stubborn steps and live with the clutter.
