How do I pick an offline note app that preserves formatting and images?
#1
I’ve been trying to find a good offline-capable note-taking app for my research, but every one I test seems to lose formatting or images when I close the connection. Has anyone found a truly reliable one that handles rich content without a constant sync?

I’ve run Obsidian as an offline vault for a long stretch. It kept formatting and images in the attachments folder through restarts. The occasional hiccup is when I move a bunch of files, the links break and the preview goes wonky until I fix the path.

Joplin felt solid for days when I wasn't connected, and images stayed attached when I reopened the notes, though if I moved a big image or a file the viewer sometimes went blank until I reloaded.

Do you actually need rich formatting or is markdown okay? If the goal is screening PDFs and images, maybe the pain point is not the app but how you couple external refs.

I gave up trying to avoid sync quirks and just export once a week as HTML and stash that in a local archive. Not perfect but predictable.
