How do I pin out a lace shawl after wet blocking without distorting the shape?
#1
I’ve been trying to get the hang of wet blocking my latest lace shawl, but I just can’t seem to get the points sharp and the edges straight without over-stretching the yarn. What’s the trick to pinning it out correctly so it dries with the right shape?

I found the points sharpen if I pin the tips first and then ease tension along the edges, but I still worry about over stretching the body.

For me soaking helps, then I lay it flat and pin from the center outward to keep the shape even, letting the edges define themselves.

I once tried a thin wire along the outer edge with a few pins; the line came out cleaner, though the fabric felt stiff when dry.

Could it be the real problem is something else like the yarn softness or the pattern's angles, not the pins?

Last time I rushed the setup and watched corners curl; I learned to slow down, let the pins do the work, and gave it time to dry.

I keep telling myself I should just try blocking again but I fear I over pull and make it worse.
