How do I process a ton of director's notes without getting overwhelmed?

I just got my first script back with the director's notes, and the sheer volume of handwritten margin scribbles is honestly overwhelming. How do you even start processing this kind of detailed feedback without getting paralyzed, especially when some notes seem to contradict the earlier conversations we had in the writers' room?

I skimmed the notes at first, then slept on them. The margin chaos felt worse than the notes themselves. I started pulling out concrete actions I could actually do and kept a running list of what felt non negotiable versus what sounded like a personal preference. The deadline helped keep the overwhelm manageable.

Sometimes it feels like a jumble of competing voices in the margins. I wonder if the real issue is that I misunderstood the director's intent, or if the plan shifted after my draft went out?

One moment I chased a note that suggested tweaking a line, then another note suggested the opposite. I paused, reread the scene, and let it sit for a day. The contradiction still gnaws at me, but at least I can point to what I actually tried changing.

I tried a tiny exercise: write a one paragraph summary of the core beats and what I can't lose, then stash it and revisit after a walk. It didn't clear everything, but it kept me from spiraling into every margin.
