How do I start joining conversations on this forum when I'm new here?

I just moved to a new city and joined this forum hoping to meet some people, but I'm honestly not sure how to start. I see all these established conversations and wonder how I can jump in without seeming like an outsider.

Moving city life is jarring I get that. I started by scrolling a bit and then dropping a short hello in a thread about weekend plans and asking what people do for fun around here. A couple replied and it felt less lonely after that.

I am not sure if I am overthinking it but I tried a small reply about a cafe I liked and asked if it is still a good pick. It drew a tiny wave of responses and I paused to let things settle.

I keep thinking about just showing up at a local meet up and saying hi even if it feels awkward a few times. I did that once and after thirty minutes I walked away with a new name and a plan to meet for coffee.
