How does muting affect my social media feed, and can i curate it better?

I’ve been trying to cut back on my screen time, but every time I mute or unfollow someone for being too negative, my feed just fills up with something else that winds me up. Has anyone else found that trying to curate your experience on these platforms just makes you more aware of how manipulative the whole stream feels?

Yep, I tried muting and unfollowing, and the next day the feed still served me more of the same stuff. It feels like the system nudges you to stay engaged, not to walk away.

Some days I end up scrolling what feels like the same small circle of voices, and I’m basically chasing a dopamine loop. I trimmed people, but the vibe showed up from new accounts anyway.

I set a timer to brake, did a no screen after dinner thing, and still found doomscrolling creeping back after work. Not perfect, but it did cut a bit.

Could the real problem be not the negativity but the way the platform rewards fast scrolling, so the habit keeps alive even when you’re trying to quit?
