How long do you give a story-driven game with a slow opening before quitting?

I've been trying to get into more story-driven games, but I keep hitting a wall with ones that have really slow openings. I just spent two hours on what's supposed to be a classic, and it's still mostly walking and exposition with very little actual gameplay or narrative hook. How long do you usually give a game like this before you decide it's just not for you?

I stuck with a slow starter for about three hours across two sessions last year. It was almost all walking and exposition, I kept hoping the scene would snap into place, but the real thread never pulled me in.

I gave up after about 90 minutes on a 'classic' once. Felt like I was watching cutscenes more than playing.

Maybe in story-driven games the setup is supposed to simmer, but I still wonder if pacing is the real issue, or if I just don't care about this world.

I tried skipping the dialogue and wandering, and that made the opening feel empty too. Then I circled back to the first meaningful choice and still didn't feel connected.
