How long does it take to feel stable after changing an antidepressant dose?
#1
I’ve been on the same dose of my antidepressant for about a year, but lately I feel like it’s just not working like it used to. My doctor mentioned the possibility of a dosage adjustment, but I’m worried about side effects coming back or feeling worse during the change. Has anyone else gone through this and noticed how long it took to feel stable again?

I did this too. After a year on the same dose, my doctor tried a small uptitration. It took about 3 to 4 weeks before I felt a difference, and another 2 to 4 weeks to feel like I was back to myself. I had a few rough days—headache, a bit more anxiety—nothing terrible, then it faded. I kept a simple mood log to track changes and told myself I’d ride it out.

It didn’t help for me, though. We nudged the dose up and then I still felt flat, so we started talking about augmentation or switching meds. It was several weeks of watching and waiting, maybe 6 to 8 weeks, before deciding it wasn’t the right path.

I remember worrying about side effects coming back. When the dose went up a notch I slept a little worse for a few days, then improved. It was still unpredictable, and I felt like I was chasing a moving target.

Do you think maybe something else—like sleep, stress, caffeine—could be the real driver here rather than the dose?
