How long is the recovery after bronchial thermoplasty for asthma?
#1
I’ve been diagnosed with moderate persistent asthma, and my pulmonologist mentioned I might be a candidate for bronchial thermoplasty. The idea of having heat applied to my airways is a bit intimidating, and I’m trying to understand what the recovery period is genuinely like for someone with my level of symptoms.

I remember the day of each procedure and the days after felt different from anything I expected. After bronchial thermoplasty I slept more, coughed a lot, and the chest felt tight for several days. It was scary but I kept reminding myself to pace myself, not push through like before.

I lived through three sessions and the pattern was similar each time. A hot chest sensation, a few uncomfortable cough spells, then a slow relief that barely showed up until weeks later. The first week after each session ached a bit, but a lot of the relief came later.

I wanted the change to be instant so I could stop carrying an inhaler around but it never felt like that. After the last visit I still had triggers, I still woke with wheeze sometimes, and I started to doubt if I actually did the right thing.

I sometimes wonder if the problem is really about something else like allergies or irritants. The recovery was a kind of reset but it did not erase the whole problem. Do you think the real issue might be triggers rather than the airway heat?
