How might beta cell decline affect my diabetes management?
#1
I’ve been managing my type 2 diabetes for years, but lately my fasting glucose numbers are creeping up even though I’m sticking to my same diet and medication. My doctor mentioned the possibility of my beta cell function declining further, which honestly scared me a bit. I’m not sure what that really feels like or if others have noticed specific signs before their treatment plan had to change.

I hear you. My fasting numbers started creeping up too, and I felt more groggy in the mornings. It’s unnerving to think about beta cell function declining, like there’s less insulin left in the bank. I didn’t feel a dramatic moment, just a slow drift.

Mine came with thirst and waking up dry more often, not a crazy spike but enough to notice. I stayed on the same diet and meds and still saw the change, so we talked about tweaking things with the doctor and watching the trend for a while before making big moves.

Is the problem really the pancreas' insulin function, or could a lot of things be playing in—sleep quality, stress, timing of meals, or even how the test is done?

I tried to push through and test every morning for a couple of weeks, then stopped because it felt like chasing a moving target. Seeing the numbers in a diary did help me tell my doctor what patterns showed up, even if I don’t feel hopeful about a fixed answer.
