How reliable are real-time bus arrival screens at my stop?
#1
I’ve been using the new real-time passenger information screens at my bus stop, and honestly, I’m starting to doubt their accuracy. The predicted arrival times seem to jump around a lot, especially when a bus is a few minutes away, and I’ve watched the countdown go from 3 minutes to “due” and then back to 5 minutes more than once.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same at my stop. It shows 3 minutes, then says due, then jumps to 5 minutes again within a minute. I timed it once and the bus rolled in about 40 seconds after the 'due' flicker, then the screen updated to 5 minutes.

I’ve been watching the same and also using the app. The numbers swing when the GPS feed updates or when the bus changes speed in traffic. Sometimes near the stop the estimate is fine, other times it seems to reset and go up or down again right before arrival.

Could it be that the display logic marks something as due even if the bus isn't here yet, and then updates to 5 minutes because the lane's traffic changed? Not sure if that's the real problem.

I did report it to the transit authority with the exact stop and times I observed. They asked for the stop ID and timestamps, so I sent them, but I’m not sure anything will change soon.
