How worried should i be about rising fasting glucose with type 2 diabetes?
#1
I’ve been managing my type 2 diabetes for years, but lately my fasting glucose numbers are creeping up even though I’m sticking to my diet and medication. My doctor mentioned the possibility of my beta cell function declining, which honestly makes me feel a bit lost about what to expect next. Has anyone else gone through this kind of shift in their long-term management?

I went through something similar last year. My fasting numbers crept up after years of stability, and that felt scary. The doc talked about beta cell function slowly declining, which was hard to hear. We rewired a few things: nailed down meds timing more strictly, tightened up overnight snack habits, and did a short basal adjustment under supervision. Over a couple of weeks the trend eased, not dramatically, but enough to feel like something was being managed again.

Maybe the issue isn't just biology. I started doubting the root cause and checked other factors: sleep quality, stress, infections, even misclocked glucometer readings. A week of tracking showed a few nights of poor sleep before the higher fasting numbers. It makes you wonder if the problem is the real problem.

Concrete step I took: kept a strict log for two weeks, same time every morning, meds, meals, activity. After sharing with the clinician, we tweaked the regimen and added a small basal dose for a month. The numbers moved in the right direction, but it felt fragile and not a cure.

I’m still unsure what’s driving it long term. It’s hard to know if this is a sign of gradual decline or just a bump in the road. It helps to talk about it, but I keep hoping the next check won’t throw me a curve ball.
