Should a Road House remake capture the original spirit or stand on its own?

I just watched the new Road House, and I’m honestly torn. I loved the original’s campy, over-the-top vibe, but this one feels so serious and slick that it barely seems like the same story. Does a remake need to capture that original spirit, or is it better when it becomes its own completely different thing?

I watched both Road House back to back and the contrast is wild. The original felt campy, over the top but fun, while the new one is polished and tense. Maybe a remake can become its own thing, but it loses that reckless charm in the process.

I stuck around for the action beats, but the slickness kept pulling me out of the vibe. The bar brawls were well shot, and the soundtrack hit, but the movie paused for too many serious moments.

Do you think a remake should honor the original tone or reinvent it completely?

I’m not sure what the real problem was for me. It might be that I went in expecting camp and got a different flavor entirely. Maybe the name carries a weight the film never tries to live up to.
