Should a slip-on exhaust on my CB500F be loud for my morning commute?

I’m trying to decide if I should replace the stock exhaust on my CB500F with a slip-on, but I’m worried it might make my daily commute unbearably loud. I like the idea of a bit more character and saving some weight, but I don’t want to be that person annoying the whole neighborhood at 6 a.m.

I swapped the stock exhaust on my CB500F for a lighter slip-on last spring. It shaved a bit of weight and gave the bike a fuller, smoother note without blasting the morning air out of everyone’s windows. I kept the idle sane and rode mostly at mid throttle before 7 am, and it wasn’t unbearable at 6 am. The neighborhood thing isn’t a slam dunk but it didn’t turn into a nightly amp show either.

Could the real issue be the commute rhythm more than the sound itself? If you’re waking up the block every morning, maybe you’re not chasing quiet so much as a predictable sensation on your ride.

I did the upgrade and felt a nice improvement for quick bursts, but some mornings the wind direction gave a louder drone. No numbers, just vibes; some days I forgot I had anything done until someone mentioned it.

I decided to stay stock after a couple of loud mornings and a suspicious note from a neighbor. It’s not worth the risk if you’re trying to keep mornings peaceful.
