Should I call my doctor about ankle swelling on my blood pressure meds?
#1
I’ve been on the same blood pressure medication for years, but lately I’ve noticed my ankles are swelling quite a bit. My doctor mentioned this could be a side effect, but I’m not sure if I should be concerned enough to call or if this is just something that happens and will settle on its own.

I’ve had that pop up after being on the same pill for years. It started small and then you notice it at the end of the day. It can be a side effect, but it can also just be fluid that sits there. If it sticks around or spreads, I’d call the doctor to check.

I tried lowering salt a bit and when I could I’d prop my feet up for a bit. Kept a small log of when the swelling showed up and how long it lasted. It helped me see patterns, not solve it.

On a grocery run I started overthinking it and then I forgot what I was looking for. The swelling thing felt vague—not an emergency, but it did make me pause about whether to change anything without talking to someone who knows the meds.

From what I remember hearing, certain blood pressure meds cause edema in the ankles because they change how vessels fill. It varies a lot person to person, so it’s not a universal rule. I’d still want a quick check rather than shrug it off.
