Should i choose a monthly transit pass or pay-per-ride with a variable schedule?

I’m trying to figure out if I should get a monthly transit pass or just pay per ride, but my schedule is so unpredictable. Some weeks I’m commuting downtown every day, and other weeks I’m barely using the bus or train at all. I can’t seem to do the math on what makes sense for this kind of sporadic use.
