Should I get a taller windscreen to reduce buffeting on my sport-touring bike?

I’m trying to decide if I should get a new windscreen for my sport-touring bike. The stock one just leaves me with too much buffeting at highway speeds, which gets tiring on longer rides. I’ve heard a taller one with a different shape can make a big difference, but I’m not sure if it’ll ruin the bike’s looks or cause other issues.

I swapped to a taller screen last year on my sport touring bike. Buffeting dropped a lot at highway speed, the wind hit higher and felt cleaner, and the neck fatigue disappeared after a few long days. It did push the wind a bit higher on my shoulders and I had to peek a bit more over it, but the noise drop made it worth it. The bike looks a little more upright, which I wasn't sure about at first, but soon it just felt normal.

I gave a taller shield a try and it did help some, but the bike started to feel top-heavy in the lines I liked. More glare on sunny mornings, and I found the lower wind scoop near the fairing changed how rain smeared the visor. I eventually swapped back toward stock and added a couple of small deflectors lower down, which helped a bit but didn't fix everything.

Maybe the problem isn’t the shield at all. I played around with a taller screen and still found buffeting coming from the sides and helmet movement, and I started chasing a solution that never quite landed. It made me question if the root cause was the seating angle or even the helmet shape, not just the windshield.

What bike are you on and what screen are you considering?
