Should I keep watching the cartoon reboot or is it aimed at a new audience?

I just watched the new season of that old cartoon reboot and it left me feeling weird. They’ve given it a modern visual style and more serialized stories, but I can’t tell if it’s actually for me anymore or if it’s aimed at a totally new audience.

I watched it last night. The visuals are slick, but the humor lands differently and the pacing feels slower than the original. I kept waiting for a clean stand alone gag and instead got a thread I had to follow.

I actually switched between two viewing modes: I turned the sound up and watched for reactions, then rewatched with the sound down and focused on world-building. The serialized arcs stuck out more the second time, and I felt myself thinking in terms of season long bets rather than single episodes.

I’m not sure if the problem is me not liking serialized storytelling or if the show just doesn’t know who it’s for anymore. It might be asking for a different kind of attention than I’m willing to give.

The other night I started doodling a map of the old town to remind myself where the places used to be, then I remembered how the new color palette is supposed to reflect city life, which made me wonder if I’m chasing the vibe or the canon. Do you think the real issue is the setup or my nostalgia?
