Should I rely on a single 50kw charger on an ev road trip or reroute?

I’m trying to plan a longer road trip in my EV and the public charging situation along my route looks pretty sparse. I’m wondering if relying on a single, reportedly reliable 50kW station for my main stop is too risky, or if I should reroute to add more options with slower chargers.

I did a similar trip once and bet everything on one 50kW stop. It was fine until the station hiccupped and we ended up waiting an hour. That kind of risk sticks with you.

Having a couple of slower chargers along the route gave me real breathing room. If the fast one was busy or flaky, we could keep moving without turning the whole day into a chase.

Is the real issue just how sparse the network is, or is the data about availability garbage? I keep wondering if reliability is less about watts and more about real time status.

I once drifted off topic to chase a scenic detour and ended up at a slower charger near a café. The break was nice, but it underlined that extra options can be a safety net even if they slow you down.
