Should I try dropshipping with an overseas supplier despite long shipping times?

I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the effort to set up a dropshipping arrangement with a supplier in another country. The shipping times they quote are long, and I’m worried my customers will just cancel their orders if they have to wait a month.

I tried a dropshipping setup with a supplier abroad last year. The transit times were long—about two to four weeks—and a few customers did cancel after seeing the ETA. It wasn’t catastrophic, but it did sit in the back of our mind for certain low-margin items.

We labeled shipping as a feature, not a bug, and offered longer windows; some people still bought, but the chatter about delays was real.

Another thing I noticed is that when delays happen, the support messages spike. We tried to offer faster post purchase updates; it helped a bit but didn't fix the root trust issue.

What if the real problem isn’t the shipping time but whether the product itself is compelling enough to justify waiting?
