Should i try lifestyle changes before meds for high blood pressure?
#1
I’ve been told my blood pressure is a bit high at my last two check-ups, and my doctor mentioned starting a medication. I’m hesitant because I feel fine and I’m worried about side effects, but I also don’t want to ignore a real problem. Has anyone else been in this spot and decided to try lifestyle changes first with their doctor’s okay?

I was in that spot last year. My doctor said my numbers were edging up but I felt fine, so we talked about trying lifestyle changes first. I started walking 40 minutes most days, swapped soda for water, and kept a simple log of my readings. After about eight weeks the numbers barely budged, but by three months they were steadier and my doctor kept the non drug plan going. I’m still watching it, but it helped me feel more in control.

I was nervous about meds too. I did the diet changes, cut salt, ate more veggies, and tried to move more. It felt slow, and there were days I forgot to track.

I tried lifestyle changes for a few weeks, and then my doctor said I should start medication anyway. It was a scramble in my head, and I felt both relief and dread.

I kept asking if the problem was me or the cuff, because sometimes the numbers change when I’m anxious. It helped me realize stress matters and sleep matters, but I still worry.

Did your doctor offer a trial period with BP checks and a stop date if you don’t improve?

I saw a clear drop after a few months of exercise, but not dramatic.

I’m not sure if this is the real problem or just a warning.
