Should I try more lifestyle changes before starting blood pressure meds?
#1
I’ve been trying to get my blood pressure under control with lifestyle changes, but my last reading at the pharmacy was still borderline high. My doctor mentioned starting medication, but I’m hesitant because I’m not sure if I’ve given diet and exercise a fair shot yet.

I get the push to keep trying lifestyle stuff. I started keeping a simple food log, swapped to more veggies, cut out late snacks, and began walking 40 minutes most days for three weeks. The numbers did trend down some mornings but stayed stubbornly high on others. It wore me out, and the pharmacy readouts still left me wondering if I should push harder or pivot. The idea of meds felt like stepping into a new lane I wasn’t ready to enter.

I kept thinking maybe something else was driving it. A few home readings looked better, then a stressful week knocked them back up. Sleep quality tanked, caffeine timing got derailed, and I’m not sure I can pin down the culprit. I’m not sure I’ve exhausted every angle before leaning on meds.

In my head I drift to other possibilities, like sleep apnea or daily stress. I’d wake with a foggy morning, then the numbers would be higher regardless of what I ate. I tried a calmer evening routine for a stretch, even booked a couple of short workouts just to test the idea, and it helped mood a bit but not the trend. It’s a messy puzzle.

Do you feel like you’ve given diet and exercise a fair shot, or is the fear of meds driving the decision more than the numbers?
