Should i upgrade the suspension on my ram 3500 for towing?

I’m trying to decide if it’s worth upgrading the suspension on my 2019 Ram 3500 dually. I regularly tow a 16,000 lb fifth wheel, and while the truck handles it, the ride feels pretty unsettled on rough back roads, especially when the trailer is empty. I’ve been looking at a set of aftermarket progressive leaf springs, but I’m not sure if that’s the right fix or if I’d just be creating a harsh unloaded ride for daily driving.

Towed about 16k with a 2019 Ram 3500 and went with progressive leaf springs. It did the heavy lifting when the wind kicked up and the trailer pushed on the back roads, keeping the rig a bit more planted. But the unloaded ride got noticeably stiffer, so it wasn’t pleasant for daily driving.

I stuck with the stock leaves but swapped in heavier shocks and kept the same springs. Tow felt more controlled and the empty ride remained decent.

Could be the problem isn’t the springs at all. I fiddled with tire pressures and hitch height and noticed big changes in how it rode behind the trailer. It makes me wonder if the real issue is setup, not a spring upgrade.

If you’re deciding, I’d try to test both options with a similar load on rough roads. A weekend with and without the upgrade could reveal if you truly want the stiffness in exchange for stability.
