Should i worry about fatigue and lightheadedness on a beta blocker?
#1
I’ve been on a beta-blocker for my hypertension for about a year, and lately I’ve been feeling unusually tired and a bit lightheaded, especially when I stand up quickly. My doctor mentioned this could be related to my heart rate being too low, but my last check-up showed my blood pressure was well-controlled. I’m not sure if I should just accept this as a side effect or if it’s something I need to bring up again.

I've been there. After a year on a beta-blocker I started feeling wiped out and lightheaded when I stood up fast. Pulse would sink into the low 50s and I moved slow, tried more water, took it easy with changes in posture. It did make me question whether to push through or bring it up with the doctor again.

Part of me wonders if the problem is the real thing. Maybe you're just tired or dehydrated, or something else is messing with your balance. I’d keep notes and go back to the clinician because it’s easy to shrug it off but it doesn’t always go away.

I kept a simple log for a couple weeks: when the dizziness happened, what I was doing, and the time of day. Then I talked to my doctor; we looked at resting HR and the meds, and we considered dose timing changes. We didn’t do anything drastic yet, but it helped me feel heard.

I sometimes drifted off into other things—like worrying about different symptoms—before circling back to the meds. I started standing more slowly and staying hydrated, but the fatigue lingered. I’m not sure if that’s the fix or just a factor to watch.
