Should we switch to commercial tires for our delivery fleet to save money?

I’m looking at the maintenance logs for our small fleet of sprinters and the sheer number of tire replacements this past year is getting hard to ignore. I’m starting to wonder if our current all-season tires just aren’t holding up to the constant stop-start and curb hopping of our last-mile delivery routes, and if switching to a commercial-grade tire designed for that punishment would actually save us money in the long run despite the higher upfront cost.

Yeah, we switched to a heavy commercial grade last year for our last‑mile vans. Upfront cost jumped, but the tires themselves cut the replacement count from about 18 to 7 in a year, mostly punctures and nails. Grip feels steadier and heat buildup seems lower on long routes, though wear rate through winter is still being watched.

I wonder if the issue is really the rubber failing or something else like wheel alignment, suspension, or how we take curb hits. Our log showed most early replacements came after a pothole or a missed alignment service. We kept pressure checks in the PMs, but the numbers still climb when the route drifts toward downtown streets with frequent braking.

I tried a small pilot with a subset and tracked cost per mile. It saved a few dollars on fuel from lower rolling resistance, but maintenance windows still bit us because we had to re-check pressures and rotate more often. Not sure it's a clean win yet.

Are you sure it’s the wear material and not something else like your daily schedules or loading practices? In my shop we chased a tire issue for weeks and found a simple pressure routine and route pacing made bigger differences than any brand swap, then drifted into other issues like wheel weight and load distribution.
