What’s a reliable home baseline for my blood pressure readings?
#1
I’ve been told my blood pressure is a bit high at my last two check-ups, but I don’t really feel any different. My doctor mentioned monitoring it at home, but the readings I get are all over the place depending on the time of day or if I’m a little stressed. I’m not sure what a reliable baseline even looks like for me now.

I went through the same thing. My BP readings bounced around for weeks, especially if I stood up fast or had coffee first. I found it helped to sit quietly for a few minutes, then take a reading and log it, so I could see patterns rather than one bad number.

I tried to rely on a device at home and kept freaking out when a reading looked high. It helped a bit to keep a small log and not chase every number, and I started to notice that technique errors (like the cuff not at heart level) were making things look worse than they were.

In my experience, a reliable baseline for the blood pressure comes from several weeks of readings taken seated with the cuff at heart level after a few minutes of rest, at the same times each day, and then looking at the average and the range rather than one or two spike numbers.

Sometimes I wonder if all this is stressing me out more than the numbers themselves. Could it be the measurement setup or something else is going on?
