What’s keeping my companion mod from spawning at the right place?

I’ve been trying to get a custom companion mod to work with my load order, but no matter how I arrange things, the character just won’t appear at the designated spawn point. I’m not sure if it’s a conflict with another NPC overhaul or if I’m missing a required asset pack.

I chased this for days last month. I kept telling myself it was a conflict with an NPC overhaul, but even shuffling the load order didn’t bring the companion to life. I did notice the thing would show up if I disabled a barely related plugin, then vanish again once I re-enabled it.

Asset pack missing at runtime is the feeling I got. I once saw a missing texture error flicker whenever I loaded through a certain sequence, and the follower never spawned. I didn’t know if that would block the spawn or just cause a soft fail, but it stuck after that.

Do you have a quest stage or scripting condition that needs to be true for the spawn?

Meanwhile I tried moving the spawn point to a different cell and it felt like the game cached something and wouldn’t refresh. I drifted into thinking maybe the problem was with the map data or navmesh instead of the follower logic.
