What’s the best way to handle unreliable microtransit wait times for my commute?

I’ve been trying to use my city’s new on-demand microtransit shuttle for my last-mile commute, but the wait times seem so unpredictable. Sometimes it’s there in five minutes, other days the app shows it’s twenty minutes away or just unavailable, which makes planning really hard. I’m not sure if I should just keep walking from the station or stick with it.

I started a small log for a week. Some days it shows up in five minutes, other days it says twenty or the ride never shows. It feels unpredictable like a coin toss.

I tried planning around the ETA but the app would change during the wait. I sometimes walked the last block to stay on schedule, not ideal but it felt more reliable.

Is the problem really the wait times or is the real issue coverage and pickup locations? It feels like the queue length is tied to zones rather than demand.

I kept a backup plan. Sometimes I walk from the station to the next stop to stay on schedule. On days with delays it saves my patience but it still wears me out.
