What’s the best way to keep color consistent across my vlogs with look-up tables?

I’m trying to get a consistent look across a series of vlogs, but every time I adjust the color on one clip, the next shot I grade just doesn’t match no matter how much I tweak the wheels. I’ve heard using a LUT as a starting point can help, but I’m not sure if that’s the right approach or if I’m just missing a fundamental step in my workflow.

I tried applying a LUT as a starting point last year and found it helped a little, but once I graded the next clip the look drifted again. My footage came from two cameras with different profiles and the lighting changed across shoots, so I ended up chasing the same balance every time and still tweaking wheels to get close.

They feel like a shortcut but they never fix the real issue for me. I suspect it’s matching exposure and white balance first, then color, especially when you shoot with mixed lighting or different cameras. I relied on scopes and a reference frame, and I still had to make per-clip tweaks.

I did a quick test where I set a neutral baseline for all clips and used a single reference frame from the brightest shot to guide the midtones. Then my brain wandered to monitor brightness and room lighting, which felt off in the moment, but the result still didn’t match across clips.

Do you think the problem is lighting or camera profiles more than the wheels?
