What’s the best way to manage smart lights from a single dashboard?
#1
I’ve just moved into a place with a bunch of smart lights and I’m trying to figure out the best way to manage them all from a single dashboard. I keep bouncing between the manufacturer’s app, my voice assistant, and a third-party hub, and nothing feels quite right or reliable.

I've been there. I ended up running a Home Assistant setup on a Raspberry Pi and built a single dashboard that lists every light as an entity. It was fiddly at first—took most of a weekend—but once it clicked I could press one button for 'Evening' and it dimmed the living room, kitchen, and entry the same way.

I kept using the manufacturer's app for quick on/off and the voice assistant for voice commands. The trouble started when scenes didn't stick or devices dropped from the hub. After a week of chasing, I backed off the third-party hub and just used direct integrations.

Maybe the root issue isn't the UI. Some lights are Zigbee, others WiFi, and a lot of routines stumble when devices reset or lose connection. If you start chasing a perfect single pane, you might fight a protocol mismatch instead of a UI problem.

One thing I tried briefly was mounting a cheap tablet to the wall and pinning the main controls there. It helped a little, but I still find myself bouncing between apps for edge cases.
